What should i know before attempting to learn Java script?

I want to start learning how to do basic Java script, i just need to know what kind of background information i should have first. As well, if anyone could point me to certain sites, books, companies, etc. that could help me learn, i would appreciate it.

What should i know before attempting to learn Java script?
A good background int HTML will be invaluable for learning JS. Just google up 'html tutorial' and you'll get bushels of them.

If you don't have any experience with learning code, you'll find that the biggest hassle is being able to practice the tags quickly and easily. If you keep a small testbed right in your taskbar or open on your screen, it will help you tremendously.

If you keep your tutorials right at the bed you won't have to go running all over the web for your material. You can have this one if you like ... http;//thurmania.com/Testbed.html and see how I arranged mine.

It's a hassle to do all your practice with Notepad or any editor.

http://www.echoecho.com/htmlbasics.htm I like echoecho's tutorials but there are bushels of them out there.

Also http://style-sheet.info/ Visibones style cheat sheet is very handy. You can also save that as a webpage to use offline.

These are things that made my html and js so much easier to learn.......:-)
Reply:Well. 1st you need to have basic HTML knowledge. If you have that. Some pointers are you need to have patience and be prepared to fix anything you make. I have made websites before left them alone for a month with every java update you have to update the content you use as well. My content on my page was scattered all over the page since I was using one version below the recommend one. Sites to use that I know of that are free. Try hotscripts first If you are willing, you will find more as you go.
Reply:You first need to html + css because if you can't make a basic web page then javascript is almost worthless. It would also help to know some basic programming structure such as logic, loops, etc...but most beginner books will teach you those things in the first few chapters.
Reply:If you want a book, those O'Riely books (the ones with the animals sketched on the front) really helped me out through my first few years of college.
