Java and other languages or tools for the cell phones and/or the web?

I am a 4D programmer.

I know about what 4D has and about the SDK from google and about Java from Sun.

What are the other languages or tools available to develop programs for the phones and/or the web?

Do you know if Sun is or will be able to capitalize on Java?

Please share your thoughts about this.

Merry Xmas and Happy holidays.

Java is 25% of the corporate world's legacy code. And Java LE (the lite version) runs on the cell phones. Java is open source as of about a year ago. Sun offers monetary rewards to the OpenSource community to bring features into the OpenSource library.

Sun's aim is to sell consulting as a money-maker.

Linux is the other up and coming small device OS.

I look for Microsoft to offer many .net features on small devices.

The thing is, hacking involves evaluating what world you are deploying your project. If you walk into a Windows installation, it is very counter-productive to demand they switch to Linux/java capabilities. Same way if you join an academic team and insist they drop OpenSource / Apache in favor of VisualBasic/C#. To insist on such a bullying tactic will result in an inferior end-product.
