I'm looking to program in Java but I don't now where to get a program to write in Java. Preferably free.
What program can I use to write my own Java programs?
VIM or notepad

But there is also NetBeans:http://www.netbeans.org/downloads/
Both of which are free.
If you would rather not use an IDE, you can use notepad and command prompt to compile and run java code.
