Why does Java take up 598mb on my computer?

I have Java (tm) updates and J2SE updates etc in my program lists and they all total 598mb, is this ok?

Why does Java take up 598mb on my computer?
Sounds like you have more than one version installed at the same time. You should uninstall all the older versions and keep only the most recent version because the old ones will have security flaws that can allow a hacker to take control of your PC or steal your personal information. Go to Start, Control Panel, Add / Remove Programs to uninstall all the old versions.

You can find an online scanner at http://secunia.com/ that will tell you what software on your computer is out of date and needs to be uninstalled and replaced with the latest version.
Reply:Please explain more. I just checked my computer. I have no java program running as a process in RAM. And my total Java Folder is 199mb, my total Java code folder, code I wrote, is 36mb. If I fire up a Java code editor, I have 106.6mb in RAM and the program is sleeping -- the CPU is idle.
