What is the importance of learning Java in Electrical & Electronics Engineering?

I am a student of EEE. I want to go to communication sector in higher studies.

My friend told me about learning Java.

I want your opinion if you know the importance.

What is the importance of learning Java in Electrical %26amp; Electronics Engineering?
actually java is not the thing for eee. its better for software development, strictly object oriented, has support for state of the art development methods and patterns. main feature is that -- java is platform independent. as a eee student you will need low level access to the computer --- java will not help you much, if you are looking from academic side.

for a quick (10 min) intro, how java works, read this :

Reply:If you have some knowledge in C and C++, tou should IMHO make yourself more proficient in those, and not waste time on Java unless it realy interests you - as an electrical engineer, you should probably have some basic understanding of programming languages, but you probably have more important things to study that are closer to your field of expertise.
Reply:Electrical engineers are also asked to create or write softwares for the hardwares that they develop using high level programming languages, and java is one. jave is one of the most commonly used programming language to implement business applications to day and even with every commercial lines. with the use of java, it would probably more easier to write in code the algorithms and logic that you would want to implement in your hardware design for the chips??????? im not sure though if you are really into creating software applications for the hardware or the chips you create....
Reply:It depends on what you want to get into in the communication field. If you are thinking of doing embedded applications then C or C++ would be better. If you are just going to do hardware engineering, then you dont really have to know a language, but understanding microprocessor interfaces are very important, so knowing the basics of programming helps.
Reply:I think C++ %26amp; java is the besic consept in a program so .........

it is the very very important four u
Reply:Java in some applications, such as on the desktop, can be totally unnessesary because of it's JIT system (compile and run when user opens). However, I do remember that there are a few Java firmwares out there for lego robotics (RCX). Otherwise, it may have been suggested to you because it does compile at runtime and therefore is cross platform.

Lastly it may be because Java can handle complexities, but then again... I have not programmed Java before so I won't know about how efficient it is.
